The Calling

What is my Purpose of being a writer?

Some may say, I want to join Gazette because I want to impart my skills, while others would say I want to join because I want to learn. But there is one word I am thirsty to hear; it is the PASSION in writing. If you have that passion in you, no one can break your pen.

I was a journalism student in AMA before, I chose a computer school because it’s a two bird in one stone for me, I am learning more about computers and at the same time I am also learning how to write. But after a year AMA decided to have a tri semester policy which means higher payment for tuition fee. My parents cannot afford to pay that much so they told me to transfer at UPHL with my brother. He took up AB Communication arts while I shifted to Marketing. I changed my course because I want to help my mom in our business and partly escaping from writing.

But as I take my back into writing, my pen continued to flame hotter than it used to be and no matter how I hinder myself to write, the calling for being a journalist still exist.

When my brother offered me to be a staff writer in the publication, there is no hesitation; I hastily grabbed the chance to scribble my flaming pen. So, I decided to join the Gazette and continue my passion in writing.

But being a Gazette (a student journalist) is not just about making poems, it’s not just about expressing yourself, it’s not just about you, it’s about being a watch dog for the students. It is more in to service.

Gazette is living bearing the principle “FOR WHOM?” which provides sense and meaning to our existence. In everything we do, we do it for a cause, and that is to fight for the right and welfare of every student. In each line and every stroke that our pen scribbles on the papers are the struggling ideas and bursting emotions of the students. We write for the studentry.

We stand to commit ourselves for the truth; no matter what it takes we will divulge the truth since it is our duty to provide information for the students.

“In the two decades of our existence, we adopt to stand with the principle “for whom” which is for the students. As what our motto proclaimed: “Committed in truth and service of the studentry” In every aspect we are on the side of the students, regarding of the cost, for the integrity of being a campus journalist has motivated us.”

G-pipol, keep up the flame that burns inside your heart.
